saturday afternoon we spent the day racing through the dc challenge scavenger hunt by aggressively riding the metro, running/speedwalking down the streets of dc, and...aggressively not riding the metro to finish.  because it was so.freakin.crowded.  the dc challenge was scheduled way before the rally to restore sanity so we just had to go with the 100K plus flow.  and that flow?  was not flowing.  we tried twice (or three times) to get on a train but just gave up after either waiting forever, getting yelled at by people/wmata workers or um, realizing we forgot to visit one of the scavenger hunt sites that was just 3 blocks away.  that sort of messed up the whole "plan".

but we had fun!  and no one fought with each other! and our costumes stayed in tact!

here we are before we started.  we are candy corn!  our team name, which i can never remember, had the word candy corn in it.

the girls!  this was right before we got our clues and realized we didn't have a PEN (um, duh).  we found a pen!  then said pen quickly stopped working.  then found another pen!  from a possible homeless person.

we figured out most of the clues right away, since katy had made an awesome map and cheat sheet ahead of time.  but we lacked a plan.  i guess that was kind of important too. ha.

we ended up finishing in about 3 hours.  we placed 34 out of 127!  we knew after mistake #2 (of 3) that we probably weren't in the running anymore, but that didn't slow us down!  at one point, kyle started sprinting up the dupont (non-working, of course) escalator, taking two stairs at a time.  and i thought i could do the same.  yeah, i couldn't.  my legs pretty much stopped working halfway up.  and im so sore today!

and here is one of the award winning costumes.  i have no idea how they fit on the metro!  i barely fit.

it was such a fun day!  we are going to start training for the next one- we figured the people who won must have run the whole time, or most of the time (and we just lost rebecca as an alumni team member haha).  despite the numerous people asking us if we were running the marathon, none of us were in running shape.

rebecca has a much more detailed recap on her blog!
